Library Policies

Animals in the Library Policy – The purpose of this policy is to describe the legal guidance around animals in the library, specifically service animals (which are welcome!) in all branches of the Starkville-Oktibbeha County Public Library System as well was which animals do not qualify for entry.

Collection Development Policy – Providing a wide array of materials is an essential way SOCPLS serves its patrons. The purpose of this policy is to state the criteria the library uses to develop and maintain its collection. If you feel an item in our collection goes against our collection development policy and would like to request it be removed, you can make that request by using our Reconsideration of Materials Request form.

Computer Use Policy – The purpose of this policy is to describe the expectations of library patron computer behavior.

Exhibits and Displays Policy – This policy details the guidelines around what exhibits may be displayed in our libraries and the process by which to submit them. You may submit a request to exhibit or display in our libraries by using our Exhibits and Display Request Form.

Public Meeting Room Policy – This policy dictates the usage of our public space for meetings and gatherings. You may use our Meeting Room Request Form to request our meeting space.

Patron Conduct and Behavior Policy – This policy details our expectations of patron behavior and our Unacceptable Patron Behavior Policy details the steps taken to deal with unacceptable patron behavior.

Safe Child and Vulnerable Person Policy – This policy is in place to protect children and vulnerable persons while in the library.

Security Camera Policy – This policy explains our usage of cameras and the collected footage.

Service Area, Residency, and Library Card Policy – This policy explains our library service area, what constitutes living within our service area, and the process of registering for a library card with us.
