Library Book Sale

Modern Woodmen Boosts Library Book Sales

The “First Monday Book Sale” is a long-standing tradition at the Starkville Public Library.  Book lovers can browse from noon until 6 p.m. the first Monday of each month, picking up books for sometimes pennies.

The Friends of the Library organization has been utilizing this venue to support library efforts in the Starkville community for years. And for the March, April and May book sales, the Friends group is joining with Modern Woodmen of America to enhance the impact of their efforts.

For the March 4 sale, Modern Woodmen will match the first $1,000 raised through the book sale, and the funds will be used to support diversity-focused holdings in the children’s section of the library.  The April 1 and May 6 sales will have a total match of $1,500, which will be used to enhance the library’s popular Summer Reading Program.

Modern Woodmen financial representative Barbara Coats says, “We hope that by partnering with the Friends of the Library, we can encourage our members and local citizens to make the effort to shop the sales for these three months. Modern Woodmen is all about community, and what better partner than our local library?”

The First Monday Book Sale is held in the downstairs area of the Starkville Public Library.  Shoppers may use cash or checks to purchase books. For more information, please contact Lynn Reinschmiedt, Friends president, at 662-312-5775.
